Ellen Pompeo is an American actress, best known for her long-running role as Dr. Meredith Grey, the titular character in the popular medical drama television series Grey's Anatomy (2005– ).
Born in Everett, Massachusetts, she began her career in commercials and had early guest roles on television shows like Law & Order and Friends, as well as minor film roles in the early 2000s, including Catch Me If You Can and Daredevil. A turning point came with her acclaimed performance in the 2002 romantic drama film Moonlight Mile.
