Emily Watson is an acclaimed English actress known for her emotionally intense and deeply committed performances in film and television. She first gained international recognition and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her debut film role as Bess McNeill in Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves (1996). She received a second Oscar nomination for her portrayal of cellist Jacqueline du Pré in Hilary and Jackie (1998). Her notable filmography also includes roles in Angela's Ashes (1999), Gosford Park (2001), Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Red Dragon (2002), Steven Spielberg's War Horse (2011), and The Theory of Everything (2014).
