Fernando Tatís Jr. is a Dominican professional baseball player who currently plays right field and shortstop for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB).
He was born on January 2, 1999, in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He is the son of former MLB player Fernando Tatís Sr.
Tatís Jr. made his MLB debut in 2019 with the San Diego Padres. He has been named an MLB All-Star multiple times and has won two Silver Slugger Awards, two Gold Glove Awards, and two Platinum Glove Awards. He led the National League in home runs in 2021.
He has been nicknamed "El Niño" (The Kid). His career statistics through the 2025 season include a batting average of .277, 152 home runs, 393 runs batted in, and 124 stolen bases. He missed the entire 2022 season due to injury and a suspension for using a performance-enhancing substance.
