Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon, nicknamed "the Dream," is a Nigerian and American former professional basketball player. He is widely considered one of the greatest centers in NBA history.
He was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1963 and began playing basketball at the age of 15. He played college basketball for the University of Houston Cougars, where he was part of the "Phi Slama Jama" fraternity and helped lead the team to three Final Four appearances.
Olajuwon was the first overall pick in the 1984 NBA draft, selected by the Houston Rockets. He played for the Rockets from 1984 to 2001, then spent his final season (2001–2002) with the Toronto Raptors.
