Ice-T (born Tracy Lauren Marrow) is an American rapper, actor, and producer who rose to fame as a pioneer of West Coast gangsta rap. Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1958, he moved to Los Angeles as a teenager, where he became immersed in street culture before serving four years in the U.S. Army.

Music Career

Rap Pioneer: He is widely credited with helping create the "gangsta rap" genre with his 1987 debut album, Rhyme Pays. His work often detailed street life, social issues, and police tension.

Body Count: In 1990, he co-founded the heavy metal band Body Count, which became the center of a national controversy in 1992 over the song "Cop Killer."

Awards: He is a two-time Grammy Award winner, including a 1991 win for Best Rap Performance.

Acting Career

Law & Order: SVU: He is most famous today for his long-running role as Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, a character he has played since 2000.

He is married to model Coco Austin, and the couple starred in the reality TV series Ice Loves Coco from 2011 to 2013. His stage name was inspired by the pimp-turned-author Iceberg Slim, whose books Ice-T used to recite while in high school.
