Record: Approximately 28–1, with his only loss occurring early in his UFC career in 2015.
Championship Status: After dominating the Lightweight division and defending that title multiple times (most notably against Alexander Volkanovski and Dustin Poirier), he moved up to 170 lbs. In November 2025, he became a two-division champion by defeating Jack Della Maddalena.
Why He’s Significant
Makhachev is widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Unlike many "brawlers," his approach is methodical and high-IQ, designed to neutralize an opponent's strengths before forcing a submission or a dominant decision. He trains out of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in California and with his team in Dagestan.
As of early 2026, he remains at the pinnacle of the sport, with fans eagerly anticipating a potential "superfight" against other reigning champions.
