King Charles III (born Charles Philip Arthur George on November 14, 1948) is the current monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms.
He ascended the throne on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Having spent seven decades as the heir apparent, he was the longest-serving "monarch-in-waiting" and became the oldest person to assume the British throne, doing so at the age of 73.
Before becoming King, he was widely known as the Prince of Wales. He served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, became the first British heir apparent to earn a university degree, and founded the Prince's Trust (now the King's Trust), which has helped over a million young people. For decades, he has been a prominent and outspoken advocate for environmental conservation, organic farming, and global sustainability.
He has two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, from his first marriage to the late Lady Diana Spencer. He has been married to Queen Camilla since 2005.
