Lars Ulrich is a Danish musician best known as the drummer and a founding member of the American heavy metal band Metallica.

He was born on December 26, 1963, in Gentofte, Denmark, and later moved to Los Angeles. Along with James Hetfield, he has songwriting credits on nearly all of Metallica's songs, and they are the only two remaining original members of the band.

Ulrich was originally a tennis player, like his father and grandfather, but shifted his focus to music after being inspired by a Deep Purple concert. He is known for pioneering fast thrash drum beats and techniques like the double bass drum in early Metallica music.
