Pokimane, whose real name is Imane Anys, is a prominent Canadian internet personality and content creator born on May 14, 1996, in Morocco. She immigrated to Canada at age four and grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario, speaking French as her first language along with English and some Moroccan Arabic. Initially studying chemical engineering at McMaster University, she dropped out in 2014 to focus on streaming full-time.
She launched her Twitch career in 2013 under the username Pokimane—a blend of "Pokémon" and her name—starting with gameplay of League of Legends and expanding to titles like Fortnite, Valorant, and Among Us. Her engaging commentary and personality quickly built a massive following; by 2017, she had over 450,000 followers, earning her a spot in Twitch's top 100 streamers. She co-founded the popular content creator collective OfflineTV in 2017 and signed an exclusive deal with Twitch in 2020, though she ended exclusivity in January 2024 to stream on other platforms. As of September 2025, her Twitch channel boasts 9.4 million followers, making her one of the most-subscribed female streamers on the platform.
Beyond Twitch, Pokimane maintains a strong YouTube presence with channels like her main Pokimane account (6.64 million subscribers and 437 million views as of September 2025), Pokimane Too for vlogs and podcasts, and others for VODs and personal content. Her achievements include the Forbes 30 Under 30 Games list in 2021, a Shorty Award for Best Twitch Streamer in 2017, multiple Streamy Award nominations, and a Legacy Award at The Streamer Awards in 2021. She's also ventured into acting with a cameo in the 2021 film Free Guy and appearances in music videos, such as Bella Poarch's "Inferno" (2021) and d4vd's "What Are You Waiting For" (2025).
Entrepreneurially, she co-founded the talent management firm RTS in 2021 (serving as Chief Creative Officer) and launched the snack brand Myna Snacks in 2023, specializing in cookies. In 2023, she started the podcast Don't Tell Anyone. Pokimane has collaborated on high-profile streams, including a 2020 Among Us session with U.S. politicians Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, and a 2024 event with Bernie Sanders for the Kamala Harris campaign, whom she endorsed as a non-U.S. citizen. Based in California, she publicly shared her PCOS diagnosis in May 2024 and identifies as spiritual but not religious.
