San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.
The franchise began in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and moved to San Antonio in 1973, becoming the Spurs. They were one of four ABA teams to join the NBA in the 1976 merger.
The Spurs are known for their consistent success, having won five NBA championships: 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. Much of this success came under the leadership of coach Gregg Popovich and the core trio of players known as the "Big Three": Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginóbili. Other key players throughout the team's history include George Gervin and David Robinson. The team currently plays its home games at the Frost Bank Center. They are currently in a rebuilding phase, led by highly touted young player Victor Wembanyama.
