A. J. Cook (full name Andrea Joy Cook) is a Canadian actress. She is best known for her long-running role as Supervisory Special Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau on the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds (2005–2020, 2022–present).
She was born on July 22, 1978, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
Cook has also appeared in films such as The Virgin Suicides (1999) and Final Destination 2 (2003), and in TV series like Higher Ground (2000) and Tru Calling (2003–2004).
She began dancing at the age of four and was a competitive dancer before deciding to pursue acting at 16. Her first acting job was in a McDonald's commercial in 1997.
She is married to Nathan Andersen, whom she met in a film class, and they have two sons, Mekhai and Phoenix. Her son Mekhai has appeared on Criminal Minds playing her character's son, Henry LaMontagne. Cook has also directed episodes of Criminal Minds.
