America Ferrera is an award-winning actress, producer, director, and activist known for breaking barriers in Hollywood with her talent, authenticity, and advocacy. Born on April 18, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, to Honduran parents, she began acting at a young age and quickly became a powerful voice for Latina representation on screen.

She gained widespread recognition with her breakthrough role in the critically acclaimed film Real Women Have Curves (2002). Her star rose even higher when she took on the lead role of Betty Suarez in the hit TV series Ugly Betty (2006–2010), a performance that earned her a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award—making her one of the first Latina actresses to win all three for the same role.

Ferrera has also starred in films such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005, 2008), How to Train Your Dragon (voice role, 2010–2019), and Barbie (2023), where her heartfelt monologue about womanhood became one of the film’s most memorable moments.

Outside of acting, she is a dedicated activist, championing issues like immigrant rights, gender equality, and political engagement, co-founding organizations such as Harness to amplify underrepresented voices.
