Dave Mustaine is an American musician, best known as the co-founder, frontman, primary songwriter, and sole consistent member of the thrash metal band Megadeth.
He is considered a pioneer of the thrash metal movement, known for his distinctive snarling vocal style and complex guitar work.
Before forming Megadeth in 1983, Mustaine was the original lead guitarist for Metallica from 1981 to 1983, and he is credited as a writer on several of their early songs. His departure from Metallica, fueled by substance abuse and personality clashes, famously led him to form a new band that he vowed would be faster and heavier, resulting in Megadeth.
With Megadeth, he has released sixteen studio albums, achieved worldwide record sales, and won a Grammy Award. His career has been marked by personal struggles, including substance abuse, which he has overcome.
