Ed Bassmaster (real name Edwin Rodriguez) is an American comedian, actor, and internet personality best known for his character-driven prank comedy and YouTube content. Born in Philadelphia in 1973, he emerged as an early pioneer of digital comedy after launching his YouTube channel in 2006.
His style relies on physical comedy, awkward improvisational humor, and distinct, recurring personas that interact with unsuspecting people in everyday settings. Some of his most recognized characters include:
* Chip Diamond: A overly aggressive, mullet-wearing, hyper-confident narcissist.
* Skippy: An awkward, overly nervous nerd with an iconic, unhinged laugh.
* Always Teste: An easily irritated, hot-tempered guy looking for trouble.
* Mumbles: A soft-spoken character who talks constantly without pronouncing words clearly.
* Gerard Douche: An obnoxious, pretentious blogger with a selfie stick.
Bassmaster achieved mainstream media attention in 2015 when he participated in a viral hoax surrounding the destruction of the Canadian traveling robot, hitchBOT. He transitioned his online success to traditional media in 2016 with his own reality prank program, The Ed Bassmaster Show, on CMT. He continues to build a massive following across social media platforms through character sketches, live stand-up, podcasts, and online content.
