Ja Morant (Temetrius Jamel Morant) is a high-flying American professional basketball player who serves as the starting point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Born on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina, he rose from being an unranked high school prospect to a college superstar at Murray State. During his sophomore season, he became the first player in NCAA history to average over 20 points and 10 assists per game in a single season.
Career Highlights
Drafted: Selected 2nd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Rookie of the Year (2020): Won the award almost unanimously after a dominant debut season.
Most Improved Player (2022): Recognized for leaping into elite status as a top-tier scorer and playmaker.
All-Star Status: A multi-time NBA All-Star known for his explosive athleticism, acrobatic finishing at the rim, and creative passing.
Current Status (March 2026)
Morant is currently 26 years old. Unfortunately, his 2025–26 season was cut short due to a UCL sprain in his left elbow sustained in January. The Grizzlies officially ruled him out for the remainder of the season on March 24, 2026, to allow him to focus on recovery and a platelet-rich plasma injection. He is expected to be fully healthy for the start of the 2026–27 season.
While his career has faced hurdles—including injuries and off-court suspensions in 2023—he remains one of the league's most electrifying "must-watch" talents when healthy.
