JB Mauney - Bull Rider

JB Mauney Age: 39 Country: United States Occupations: Bull Rider

J.B. Mauney (James Burton Mauney) is an American former professional rodeo cowboy who specialized in bull riding. He is widely considered one of the greatest bull riders of his generation and a defining figure in the sport.

* Key Achievements: Mauney is a two-time PBR World Champion, winning the titles in 2013 and 2015. He also holds the distinction of being the first bull rider to surpass $7 million in career earnings in the PBR. He is tied for the most Premier Series event titles in PBR history with 32 wins.

* Nickname and Style: Known as "The Dragon Slayer," he earned this nickname for his willingness to ride, and often conquer, the rankest (most difficult) bulls in the game, epitomizing his personal motto: "If you want to be the best, you've got to ride the best." This includes his legendary ride on the bull Bushwacker, ending the bull's record buck-off streak.

* Career: Born on January 9, 1987, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he turned professional in 2005. His career was marked by immense grit, persistence, and toughness, often riding through serious injuries. He competed in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) circuit for 15 consecutive seasons before eventually shifting his focus to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).

* Retirement: His career came to an abrupt end in 2023 after a wreck at a PRCA rodeo in Idaho, which resulted in a fractured neck. Following his retirement from riding, he returned to the PBR in 2024 as the head coach for one of the PBR Team Series franchises, the Oklahoma Wildcatters.
