Lily James is an English actress known for her roles across film, television, and stage. Born Lily Chloe Ninette Thomson on April 5, 1989, she adopted "James" as her professional surname in honor of her late father.

She studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her early career included a supporting role as Lady Rose MacClare in the popular period drama series Downton Abbey (2012–2015).

Her breakthrough role came as the title character in Disney's live-action film Cinderella (2015). Following this, she took on diverse roles such as Natasha Rostova in the BBC adaptation of War & Peace (2016), an ingenue diner waitress in the action film Baby Driver (2017), the younger Donna Sheridan in the musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), and Elizabeth Layton in the war drama Darkest Hour (2017).

More recently, her transformation into Pamela Anderson for the biographical series Pam & Tommy (2022) earned her nominations for a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. Other recent film roles include The Dig (2021) and the sports drama The Iron Claw (2023).

She has also performed extensively in theatre, including a critically praised turn as Desdemona in Othello and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
