Lupita Amondi Nyong'o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress and author. Born in Mexico City in 1983 to Kenyan parents and raised primarily in Kenya, she holds a Master's degree in acting from the Yale School of Drama.

Nyong'o gained international recognition for her feature film debut as Patsey in the historical drama 12 Years a Slave (2013), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the first Kenyan and Mexican actress to win an Oscar.

Her career includes major roles in blockbuster films such as Nakia in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), the horror film Us (2019), and the motion-capture role of Maz Kanata in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. She also earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway debut in the play Eclipsed. Beyond acting, she is an advocate for diversity and has written the acclaimed children's book Sulwe. She is recognized globally as a prominent fashion icon.
