Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen is a Danish actor born on November 22, 1965, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is known for his versatile performances, ranging from chilling villains to vulnerable protagonists, which have made him an international icon. Before becoming an actor, he trained as a gymnast and was a professional dancer for almost a decade.

Mikkelsen's film debut was in 1996 in the Danish crime drama Pusher. His international breakthrough came in 2006 when he played the villain Le Chiffre in the James Bond film Casino Royale. Other notable roles include his performance as Lucas in the Danish film The Hunt (2012), for which he won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival; Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the television series Hannibal (2013–2015); Kaecilius in the Marvel film Doctor Strange (2016); and Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).

He is married to Hanne Jacobsen, whom he married in 2000, and they have two children. His older brother, Lars Mikkelsen, is also an actor.
