Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant, author, and TV presenter famous for the KonMari Method, a distinctive approach to tidying. She gained global recognition with her best-selling book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" (2011), and her popular Netflix series, "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo."
Her core philosophy, which she developed from her childhood fascination with organizing and time as a Shinto shrine maiden, centers on the principle of "sparking joy." The KonMari Method instructs people to declutter by gathering all of their belongings by category (starting with clothes, then books, papers, miscellaneous items, and finally sentimental items) and only keeping those items that evoke a feeling of joy. Items that do not "spark joy" are to be respectfully thanked for their service and discarded. She advocates for tidying completely and intensely in one go to achieve a profound, life-changing effect that prevents relapsing into clutter. She is the founder of KonMari Media, Inc. and was named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in 2015.
