Melissa Benoist is an American actress and singer, born on October 4, 1988. Her first major television role was Marley Rose on the musical comedy-drama series Glee, where she was a series regular during the fifth season from 2012 to 2014. She rose to widespread prominence for starring as the title character, Kara Danvers / Supergirl, in the CBS/CW superhero series Supergirl from 2015 to 2021, and for appearances in related shows within the Arrowverse franchise.
Her film appearances include the drama Whiplash (2014), the romantic Western The Longest Ride (2015), the comedy-drama Danny Collins (2015), and the action thriller Patriots Day (2016). On stage, she made her Broadway debut in 2018 as Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She also starred in and produced the 2024 series The Girls on the Bus.
