Michelle Obama is an American lawyer, writer, and former First Lady of the United States. She is the wife of the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama, and was the first African American First Lady.

Born Michelle LaVaughn Robinson in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. In her professional career, she worked at the law firm Sidley Austin, where she met her future husband, and later held positions in non-profit organizations and as the Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

As First Lady, she focused on issues such as poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating, notably through her "Let's Move!" campaign. Since leaving the White House, she has continued her public advocacy and has authored the highly successful memoir, Becoming. She is widely regarded as an influential figure and role model.
