Barack Obama is an American politician who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was the first African American to hold the office.
Before his presidency, he was a U.S. Senator representing Illinois and a member of the Illinois State Senate. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Key aspects of his time in office include signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), overseeing the end of the Iraq War, and authorizing the raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.
He is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first Black president of the Harvard Law Review. He is married to Michelle Obama and they have two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After his presidency, he has remained active in public life through the Obama Foundation.
