Phil Collins Age: 75 Country: United Kingdom Occupations: Singer Domains: Rock Music

Phil Collins is an English singer, songwriter, drummer, record producer, and actor best known as the lead vocalist and drummer for the rock band Genesis, as well as for his highly successful solo career.

Born in London in 1951, Collins began his career as a child actor—notably playing the Artful Dodger in the West End production of Oliver!—before shifting his full focus to music. He joined Genesis as their drummer in 1970. After original lead singer Peter Gabriel left the group in 1975, Collins stepped up to take over lead vocals, steering the band from progressive rock into a massive, hit-making pop-rock sound throughout the 1980s.

Concurrently with his work in Genesis, Collins launched a solo career in 1981 that turned him into one of the most dominant pop stars of the decade. Famous for his distinct vocal style, gated-reverb drum sound, and emotional balladry, he scored a string of chart-topping hits including "In the Air Tonight," "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)," "Sussudio," "Another Day in Paradise," and "You'll Be in My Heart" (from Disney's Tarzan, which earned him an Academy Award).

Collins is one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 150 million records worldwide. He is also one of only three artists—alongside Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson—to sell over 100 million albums both as a solo artist and as a core member of a band. Over his career, he has earned eight Grammy Awards, an Oscar, two Golden Globes, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis.
