Benedict Cumberbatch is an English actor widely acclaimed for his versatile work across film, television, and theatre.
He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the title character in the BBC series Sherlock (2010–2017), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award. He is also globally known for playing Doctor Stephen Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, beginning with Doctor Strange (2016).
Cumberbatch has received multiple Academy Award nominations for Best Actor, first for playing mathematician Alan Turing in The Imitation Game (2014), and again for his role as a volatile rancher in The Power of the Dog (2021).
Trained in classical acting, he has a distinguished stage career, including winning an Olivier Award for his role in the play Frankenstein.
