Actor
Walter Bruce Willis (born March 19, 1955) is a retired American actor, producer, and singer who became one of the most bankable and iconic action stars in Hollywood history.
Career Highlights
Willis first gained national attention in the mid-1980s starring as the charming detective David Addison on the TV series Moonlighting. However, his career reached legendary status in 1988 with his role as John McClane in Die Hard. Unlike the invincible action heroes of that era, Willis’s portrayal of an "everyman" in a dirty undershirt redefined the genre.
Over four decades, he demonstrated significant range across several genres:
Action: The Die Hard franchise, Armageddon, and The Fifth Element.
Drama/Thriller: The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and 12 Monkeys.
Cult Classics: Pulp Fiction and Sin City.
Comedy: Death Becomes Her and the voice of Mikey in Look Who’s Talking.
Personal Life
Born in West Germany to an American father and German mother, Willis was raised in New Jersey. As a child, he struggled with a severe stutter, which he famously discovered disappeared the moment he began acting on stage.
He was famously married to actress Demi Moore from 1987 to 2000; the two remain close friends and share three daughters (Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah). He married model Emma Heming in 2009, with whom he has two daughters (Mabel and Evelyn).
Retirement and Health
In March 2022, Willis’s family announced his retirement from acting following a diagnosis of aphasia, a condition that affects cognitive abilities and language. In early 2023, it was confirmed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD). His family has since become active advocates for raising awareness about the disease.
