Chief Keef (real name Keith Farrelle Cozart) is an American rapper and record producer born and raised in South Side Chicago. He is widely credited with popularizing the hip-hop subgenre known as drill music for mainstream audiences and is considered one of its originators.
He began his career as a teenager, gaining regional attention with mixtapes in the early 2010s. His single "I Don't Like" in 2012, followed by "Love Sosa," became major hits and led to a deal with Interscope Records. His debut album, Finally Rich, was released later that year.
His music is characterized by its gritty, realistic, and often nihilistic lyrics reflecting life on the streets, delivered in a grim, deadpan style. He has been a significant influence on a generation of younger hip-hop artists.
