Cynthia Nixon is an American actress, activist, and theatre director.

She is widely known for her role as Miranda Hobbes in the HBO series Sex and the City (1998–2004) and its subsequent films and sequel series, And Just Like That... She has had a long career in film, television, and theater, beginning her Broadway debut in 1980. Her accolades include two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, and a Grammy Award.

Nixon is also known for her political activism. She is a long-time advocate for public education, LGBTQ equality (particularly same-sex marriage), and women's health. In 2018, she ran for Governor of New York as a challenger in the Democratic primary. She is a member of the New York City chapter of Democratic Socialists of America.

She is a graduate of Barnard College.
