Raised in Gravesend, Kent, Arterton was born with polydactyly (having an extra finger on each hand, which was surgically removed shortly after birth). She discovered a passion for acting in her teens and earned a scholarship to the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in 2007.
