Joe Sugg, born Joseph Graham Sugg on September 8, 1991, in Lacock, Wiltshire, England, is a prominent English YouTuber, actor, and content creator. He rose to fame in 2012 by launching his main YouTube channel, ThatcherJoe—named after his early apprenticeship as a roof thatcher—which amassed over 8 million subscribers at its peak through entertaining videos featuring impressions, pranks, art challenges, collaborations, and experimental formats. He also runs secondary channels like ThatcherJoeVlogs for daily life updates and ThatcherJoeGames for gaming content.
Sugg has expanded into acting and television, including an uncredited voiceover as a seagull in the 2015 UK version of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. He starred alongside fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee in the direct-to-DVD films Joe and Caspar Hit the Road (2015) and its sequel Joe & Caspar Hit the Road USA (2016), which aired on E4. In 2017, he appeared in an episode of the ITV show Release the Hounds with creators Alfie Deyes and Marcus Butler. His television breakthrough came as a finalist on the 16th series of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, where he partnered with professional dancer Dianne Buswell, whom he began dating soon after. In 2019, Sugg made his West End debut as Ogie Anhorn in the musical Waitress. Additional credits include voicing characters in Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019) and The Amazing Maurice (2022), as well as a role in the BBC drama The Syndicate (2021).
Beyond entertainment, Sugg explored his family history on the 2021 BBC series Who Do You Think You Are?, uncovering Huguenot ancestors who fled religious persecution in 18th-century France. He maintains an active online presence, including a Twitch channel for gaming streams. In September 2025, he and Buswell announced they were expecting their first child, a milestone shared amid reflections on media pressures in his latest YouTube video. Educated at The Corsham School, where he earned strong A-level grades, Sugg continues to produce content focused on humor, creativity, and personal life.
