Lewis Singwah Tan is a British-American actor, martial artist, and model born on February 4, 1987, in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. He is the son of Joanne Cassidy, an English former fashion model, and Philip Tan, a Chinese-Singaporean martial artist, actor, and stunt coordinator.
Tan grew up in a creative and action-oriented household. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was young as his father worked as a stunt coordinator for high-profile feature films like Tim Burton's 1989 Batman. Trained in martial arts by his father from an early age, Tan developed expertise in multiple disciplines, including Muay Thai, Kung Fu, Ju-Jitsu, and katana swordplay. He performs the majority of his own stunts and fight choreography.
Before taking on major acting roles, Tan worked as a fashion model—signing with Wilhelmina and modeling for brands such as Diesel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Levi's—and performed stunt work for films like The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
