Paula Abdul is an American singer, dancer, choreographer, actress, and television personality.
She began her career as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers at age 18 and later became the head choreographer for the Laker Girls. She was discovered by The Jacksons and went on to become a highly sought-after choreographer for music videos, including those for Janet Jackson, and films like Coming to America and American Beauty. She is a two-time Emmy Award winner for choreography.
Abdul launched a successful singing career with her 1988 debut album, Forever Your Girl, which produced four number-one singles, including "Straight Up," "Forever Your Girl," "Cold Hearted," and "Opposites Attract." She has sold approximately 30 million albums worldwide.
In the 2000s, she found renewed fame as one of the original judges on the popular television series American Idol from 2002 to 2009. She has since served as a judge on other reality competition shows such as The X Factor and So You Think You Can Dance.
