Phoebe Jane Elizabeth Tonkin is an Australian actress born on July 12, 1989, in Sydney, Australia. She is known for her roles on both Australian and American television.

Her breakthrough came with the lead role of Cleo Sertori in the Australian fantasy series H2O: Just Add Water (2006–2010), for which she was nominated for an AACTA Award.

She later gained international recognition for playing Faye Chamberlain in the CW series The Secret Circle (2011–2012), and then as Hayley Marshall in The Vampire Diaries (2012–2013) and its spin-off series, The Originals (2013–2018).

Her film work includes the features Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010), Bait 3D (2012), and a role in Babylon (2022). More recently, she won an AACTA Award for Best Actress for her role as Frances Bell in the 2024 Netflix miniseries Boy Swallows Universe. She has also directed her own short film, Furlough.
