Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis, known professionally as Theo James, is an English actor and producer. Born on December 16, 1984, he studied philosophy at the University of Nottingham and later trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He began his career with roles in British television, notably appearing in Downton Abbey and the supernatural drama Bedlam.
His breakthrough came with the leading role of Tobias "Four" Eaton in The Divergent Series of films (2014-2016). He has also appeared in the Underworld film series. More recently, he has gained critical acclaim for his television work, which includes the series Sanditon, the lead in The Time Traveler's Wife, and his Emmy-nominated performance as Cameron Sullivan in the second season of the dark comedy series The White Lotus. In 2024, he starred as Eddie Horniman in the Netflix series The Gentlemen.
Outside of acting, he is a humanitarian who has worked as a high-profile supporter for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). He is married to actress Ruth Kearney, and they have two children.
