David Harbour is an American actor known globally for portraying Police Chief Jim Hopper in the acclaimed Netflix science-fiction series, Stranger Things (2016–present).

He has received critical recognition for this role, including two nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

His other notable roles include:

Red Guardian / Alexei Shostakov in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Black Widow (2021) and the upcoming Thunderbolts* (2025).

The title character in the film Hellboy (2019).

Santa Claus in the film Violent Night (2022).

Harbour began his professional acting career on Broadway in 1999 and received a Tony Award nomination in 2005 for his role in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
