Lil Jon, whose real name is Jonathan H. Smith, is an American rapper, record producer, and DJ. He is widely recognized as a progenitor of crunk, a genre of Southern hip-hop known for its energetic, club-oriented sound.
He was the frontman of the group Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz and achieved major chart success in the early 2000s with hits like "Get Low." His distinct and powerful vocal presence, characterized by his signature ad-libs like "Yeah!," "What?!," and "O-Kay!," is instantly recognizable.
Beyond his work in crunk, he has had massive crossover success, notably with the hit EDM track "Turn Down for What" (with DJ Snake) and as a featured artist on Usher's chart-topper "Yeah!" He's also been involved in reality TV, appearing on shows like The Celebrity Apprentice.
In recent years, he has also ventured into unexpected territory, releasing a guided meditation album. He is known for his exuberant stage presence and often wears heavy gold chains and a pimp cup.
