Michael James Way, born on September 10, 1980, in Newark, New Jersey, is an American musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist best known as the bassist for the influential rock band My Chemical Romance (MCR). Raised in Belleville alongside his older brother Gerard Way, the band's lead vocalist, Mikey grew up in a creative environment influenced by punk, emo, and alternative rock scenes, with early jobs at Barnes & Noble and Eyeball Records shaping his path into music. He joined MCR in 2001, shortly after Gerard formed the group, and played a key role in their debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (2002). His distinctive bass lines contributed to the band's signature sound on breakthrough albums like Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004), the concept epic The Black Parade (2006), and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (2010). After MCR's 2013 hiatus, Way co-founded the electronic rock duo Electric Century with vocalist David Debiak, releasing their debut album Electric Century in 2015 and follow-up For the Night to Control in 2016, blending synth-pop with rock elements. He has also ventured into comics, co-writing the graphic novel Collapser with Shaun Simon, published by DC Comics in 2019. Personally, Mikey was married to bassist Alicia Simmons from 2007 to 2013, with whom he shared matching tattoos, and later married Kristin Colby in 2016. Of Scottish and Italian descent, he remains a private figure but continues to influence the alt-rock world through occasional collaborations and fan engagements.
