Sara Elena Ramírez Vargas, born August 31, 1975, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, is an American actor, singer, and activist. They moved from Mexico to the United States at eight years old and graduated with a fine arts degree from the Juilliard School.

Ramírez began their career in Broadway productions, including a debut in Paul Simon's The Capeman (1998). Their breakthrough came with the portrayal of the original Lady of the Lake in the 2005 Broadway musical Spamalot, for which they won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

They are widely known for their work in television, particularly for playing Dr. Callie Torres on the medical drama Grey's Anatomy for 11 seasons. This role marked one of the longest-running LGBT characters in U.S. television history, as Ramírez volunteered the addition of the character's bisexuality. Following their departure from Grey's Anatomy, they portrayed Kat Sandoval on Madam Secretary and Che Díaz in the Sex and the City revival series And Just Like That...

Ramírez is openly bisexual and nonbinary, using they/them pronouns. They have also worked as a voice actor, notably voicing Queen Miranda in the animated series Sofia the First (2012–2018). As an activist, they have campaigned for LGBT rights, winning the Ally for Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in 2015.
