Early Life and Education
Born on January 29, 1977, in Knoxville, Illinois, Hartley grew up in the Chicago suburb of Orland Park. While he was heavily involved in sports during his youth, an injury ultimately led him to pivot toward performing arts. He went on to study history and theater at Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois at Chicago before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time.
Television Career
Hartley first broke into the industry with daytime television, starring as Fox Crane on the NBC soap opera Passions from 2002 to 2006. He later stepped into the role of Adam Newman on CBS's The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2016, which earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination.
