Lisa Kudrow is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer who first rose to international fame for her iconic role as the eccentric, free-spirited Phoebe Buffay on the hit sitcom Friends (1994–2004). This role earned her an Emmy Award and multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Beyond her most famous character, Kudrow is known for playing the twin sister to Phoebe, the spacey waitress Ursula Buffay, on both Friends and the sitcom Mad About You.
Her career extends well beyond ensemble comedy, showcasing her ability to create unique, sometimes cringe-worthy, and critically-acclaimed characters. She co-created, wrote, produced, and starred in the HBO mockumentary series The Comeback (2005, 2014) as the desperately hopeful former sitcom star Valerie Cherish, and the improvisational comedy series Web Therapy (2011–2015).
In film, she starred in the cult comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) and received critical praise for her work in the dark comedy-drama The Opposite of Sex (1998). She has also appeared in films like Analyze This, Easy A, and Neighbors.
Before becoming an actress, Lisa Kudrow graduated with a degree in Psychobiology and worked as a medical researcher. She got her start in comedy with the Los Angeles improvisational troupe The Groundlings.
