Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.), born in 1954, is an American politician, environmental lawyer, and author who currently serves as the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.
He is a member of the prominent Kennedy political family, being the son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy built his public profile primarily as an environmental activist and lawyer, serving as a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council and as the chief prosecuting attorney for Riverkeeper. He also co-founded the Waterkeeper Alliance, a global non-profit focused on clean water.
More recently, he has become a leading figure in the anti-vaccine movement, promoting scientifically disputed claims, and founded the non-profit group Children's Health Defense. He has authored several books, including some on environmental issues and others that promote his controversial views on public health.
In the 2024 election cycle, he launched a campaign for president, initially seeking the Democratic Party's nomination before running as an independent. He later suspended his bid and endorsed the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, who subsequently appointed him to his cabinet role.
